World Trade Centre – A defining building of peace and rebirth
Everyone remembers where they were when the Twin Towers at the World Trade Centre were attacked in a terrorist plot masterminded by Osama Bin Laden.
It was an act of terror that changed the world, travel, and the American people forever.
In a place where once death and destruction lingered in the air, the World Trade Centre today stands taller, more defiant, and finally, at peace.
People weren’t sure what to do with the site once the debris had been removed. Some wanted to leave it alone, forever as a reminder to the world of the terrible tragedy that happened on that fateful day.
However as someone who has been to the World Trade Centre as an outsider, I think the citizens of the United States and those in particular that lived in New York City or knew someone who lost their life in the attacks, did the right thing when they agreed on rebuilding the site of the World Trade Centre.
What lies in place today is a wonderful mix of modern financial buildings, a bright and uplifting transportation hub, a timeless and suitable memorial to those that perished, and a museum that will never let anyone forget what happened there.
It is hard to consider the world trade centre as a must-see tourist spot after the horror that took place there but it is, and it should be the first place you visit.
New York is one of the most incredible cities in the world with an unparalleled offering of sights and sounds to visit, and the World Trade Centre is different to what anywhere else in the world can offer you.
The World Trade Centre while offering beautiful architecture with meaning and purpose; it presents people who have never been to New York, or weren’t even born before the attacks happened, with the opportunity to connect to a significant moment in our modern history.
It helps us understand the humanity behind what happened here, who perished, who gave their life trying to save others and altogether those who took their last breath on that unforgettable day.
A city had it’s beating heart ripped out from it’s chest, and the city that never sleeps, came to a halt.
The mirrored windows of One World Trade stand tall and reflect a city built with the purpose of being the best in the world, to defy what others say is undo-able, and to continuously keep moving forward. It serves its purpose in paving the way for the future while never forgetting the path it has already travelled.
