Toronto – Making the most of Ontario’s capital city – CN Tower

While I was living in New York City I decided to go visit some family who happened to be living in Toronto at the time. I had never been to Canada before so I was pretty excited for it and as they were living in Toronto, the CN Tower had to be my first port-of-call.

Getting to Toronto

Flying into Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) was so easy to do from New York. I flew with the low fares airline West Jet and departed LaGuardia International Airport (LGA) at 6.05am and arrived into Toronto at 7.45am.

There are two terminals at Toronto Pearson, quite confusingly, they are numbered 1 and 3 so don’t be confused when you see no terminal 2 like I was.

The two terminals are connected by the “Terminal Link Train”. The TLT is a monorail similar to those located at different airports around the world. It was extremely fast, reliable, and on-time.

Heading Downtown

If you have plans to get into the heart of Toronto – by the CN Tower, Rogers Centre, the Financial District – like I did, then you will need to take the Union Pearse (UP) Express train to Union Station from Pearson Airport. The journey takes 25 minutes to get the Union Station.

The tickets aren’t exactly cheap costing CA$24.70 (€16.70 / $19.69) for an adult return for a 25 minute train journey, but it’s not the worst.

I was pretty tired when I arrived to Toronto so I took it easy for a while in my sister and her partner’s apartment. I had a nap, ate some food, and then got ready to go out again.

I was in Toronto so I of course I wanted to see the CN Tower straight away.

The CN Tower is brilliant! There’s no other way to describe it. It starts off with you getting into a super fast lift while a tour guide recites some fun facts about the tower. The best thing? – It is covered in glass and you can see right outside.

When you go up top you can look out of the windows or you can go outside and press up against the metal railings! Going outside I wouldn’t recommend for the faint of heart but at the end of the day you only live once right?

Tickets for the tower cost CA$36 (€24.39 $28.70) but there are children and senior discounts. While it is a bit pricey especially if you have a family to cover the cost for then the price can add up but are you really going to go to Toronto and not visit the CN Tower? The views really are spectacular.

You can actually book a spot at their restaurant, 350m in the air if you so wish and for the adrenaline junkies out there you can literally hang off the edge of the tower, connected only by a harness for CA$225 (€152.65 $179.60)
