Mia Toro Luggage: A review of the Italian suitcase designer

I’m not sure if you have heard about Mia Toro Italy, the Italian designer luggage brand, but hopefully after reading this you will know a little more about the luggage maker and ultimately whether or not you should consider them the next time you need to upgrade your luggage.

Mia Toro reached out to me and offered me a free product in exchange for a review. I was more than happy to oblige and for you, the reader, I hope to give you an objective review on what I thought about the Italian fashion brand.

Mia Toro are currently running a site-wide sale and have also given me a special promo code to offer you an extra 20% off should you be interested in purchasing a suitcase. Mia Toro Luggage: Who are they?

You might notice that above, I referred to Mia Toro as an Italian fashion brand, I did so because that is very much how they see themselves, and how their customers see them too.

The first thing that struck me and I’m sure it did for you as well about Mia Toro was their designs. For decades, luggage was simply about practicality and usability, design was very much an afterthought. At Mia Toro though, it is very much at the forefront.

Social Media, and the internet as a whole, have given birth to a massive wave of creative people who finally have an outlet wherein they can reach millions. We as a society, I believe, have become more and more creative in our outlook and are always trying to make what we own that little bit different.

It is in this ever-increasingly creative society that the likes of Mia Toro luggage has emerged as major player.

I love it when brands and artists work together to create something unique. And I think Mia Toro are breaking the mold in the luggage industry by actively partnering with talented artists around the world to create something that is truly unique, and that goes against the status quo.

If you own a piece of their luggage, Mia Toro luggage is going to set you apart. If you are in the airport, everybody will be looking at your suitcase because they probably wouldn’t have seen anything like it in their lives. The bottom line is, you’re going to stand out if you’re carrying a Mia Toro-designed case. But with the extreme focus on design, are they practically any good?

Mia Toro Luggage: Macchiolina

As part of the review I chose the Macchiolina Polish Hardside Spinner Carry-on in Silver. Bit of a mouthful but I just call it Mac. The case was part of the “Industrial Textures” collection and there was something about this design in particular that just spoke to me. I really liked the pattern design on the front and back and of course the silver finish. Ovreall I thought it was pretty cool.

The suitcase measures 22″ x 14″ x 9″ (55.8cm x 35.5cm x22.8cm) so it pushes the very max of what airlines will allow on board as carry on. By TSA standards that is the max.

The case has self-mending zips which means that if it opens somehow while zipped shut, you just have to zip it open and then closed again, and it continues to work perfectly – no more broken zips. There is also a TSA-approved lock which can be set to a three digit code. Normally these TSA locks are pretty bulky but this one is pretty slim.

Other features:

  • Embossed design with armoured corners.
  • Polished canvas finish with vibrant color.
  • Ergonomic gel grip handle.
  • Light-weight trolley.
  • Slim lock TSA design.
  • Flex-pack design expands 2″ to add 25% more packing space.
  • Glide-tech 360 degree dual wheels.
  • A fully zippered panel in the interior of the suitcase to fully separate your belongings.
  • Compression straps and clasp.

Mia Toro Luggage: Packing

When it comes to actually packing the bag, you know the whole reason you buy a suitcase, I easily managed to pack enough for a five night getaway. In the case was:

  • Two pairs of jeans.
  • One pair of trackpants.
  • One pair of shorts
  • Swimshorts (and swimming cap).
  • Four thick jumpers/sweaters.
  • Two tops.
  • Four shirts.
  • Six pairs of socks.
  • Six pairs of underwear.
  • A full toiletry bag.
  • My laptop.
  • My headphones.
  • Two chargers.
  • An adapter.

Everything comfortably fit into the case and while it doesn’t show in the photos, you could definitely fit in another flat pair of shoes, think Vans or flats. And if you’re a little better at Tetris and packing than me then you could probably fit a pair of boots in it as well.

I have to say that while packing I was happy putting my clothes into this suitcase. Its lining, zips, and clasp didn’t have a cheap feel at all to them and the luggage felt like an expensive piece of equipment.

Inside of the suitcase is just as branded, if not more so, than the outside. Italian flag designs against a satin-black lining really add to the luxury and designer feel of the bag. And ultimately, to me, it reflects a brand that is proud of what they produce.

The Mia Toro case is roomy and if needed, an exterior zip can be unzipped to provide an extra 25% in luggage space which is very handy if you are going on a longer trip and need the extra space.

Speaking of the exterior, the composite armour is flexible and certainly strong. The top four corners have a hardened plastic bumper to protect your suitcase. Altogether it’s a nice touch and will help put your mind at ease when it comes to protecting your valuables.

Mia Toro Luggage: What I liked

I absolutely loved the design, the colour looks great, night or day. The mix of black, silver, and chrome really makes the suitcase pop. The finishings, both inside and out, are high-quality and it feels like a luxurious product.

Practically speaking, the gel grip handle is very soft and if you have to carry it around by the handle, you won’t have any issues with blisters or cramps.

The Glide-Tech wheels are great. When I got my first four-wheeled suitcase it blew me away with how much easier it was to navigate an airport, and even then getting on the bus or train/subway – having four wheels makes your life four times easier.

The wheels are also quite a distance off the ground so where in the past I’ve had suitcases with wheels which are built into the suitcase itself, the bottom of the suitcase tends to scratch against the ground, but that isn’t the case here.

And lastly, I loved the space. It is a very spacious suitcase with the ability to get extra room if needed. I would say it maxes out at a 7-night getaway for me who has pretty simple fashion tastes, but typically you will have no bother packing for five nights here.

Mia Toro Luggage: What I didn’t like

I’m used to having a side-handle on my carry on. I find it can be quite handy at times and can sometimes make it easier to carry the suitcase. The Mia Toro Macchiolina doesn’t have a side-handle, I’m guessing due to it maxing out the carry-on dimensions.

Carrying on from the point about maxing out the carry-on dimensions, it isn’t suitable for every flight as carry-on. The case abides by TSA’s regulations so you’re typically safe but sometimes individual airlines make up their own rules on their maximum luggage carry-on size. So you have to be vigilant about which airline you typically travel with and what their size restrictions are.

If you weren’t planning on taking it on as a carry-on but rather checking it in, then no problem. Having said that, flying is just one form of transit however and you will be able to use it comfortably on every other mode of transport as well.

One of the last things I thought could be improved was the extendable handle. I found that it was a little wobbly, not wobbly that it was defective or took away the premium feel, but it could’ve been a bit sturdier.

Price Range

Mia Toro’s carry-on luggage ranges from around $110-170, their checked baggage begins around $130 and goes up to $250, and sets-of-3 start at around $390 and go up to $570. Shipping is free within the US and for rest of the world, shipping is calculated at checkout based on weight.

Mia Toro currently have a sale on but their stock is going quite quickly. If you do choose to purchase something that already has a percentage off, you also get 20% off on top of sale discount, you just need to use code PRIMABL in the coupon section.

You get a 10-year warranty as well from the day you purchase the luggage. It is cloud cover and actually comes as an app you can download onto your phone. You scan the QR code in the case and if you have any problems it is all done through the app – no call waiting times.

Conclusions

Mia Toro is a designer luggage brand producing some high-end, high-quality products. They want to define themselves in the luggage market and they’re doing that through stylish, designed luggage which also ticks all the boxes for what you want in a suitcase.

If you want a suitcase that is practical, will turn some heads, and helps you explore your creative side, then I genuinely recommend checking out Mia Toro.

If you want a suitcase that you won’t have any need for after one trip or are just going for cheap and cheerful, then this suitcase isn’t probably for you.

But for those who are looking to invest in their luggage, then you should seriously consider what Mia Toro has to offer, I genuinely believe you’d be very happy with your decision. They are a brand that I recommend to anyone wanting to be a little creative, a little expressive, whilst also owning a superb suitcase.

Again, be sure to use code PRIMABL at check-out to get 20% off site-wide. Happy travelling.
